For the VFX industry that is currently entering a process of much needed change. Wired.com has a decent article on it. Whether the next step is a trade organization, a union, or something else entirely, I hope the best for everyone.

Aartpack 2

A few more Aartpack illustrations, including the kangaroo in it's mathematical habitat, and a before and after version of a rainbow activity for younger kids learning colors. Since rainbows normally form after a big rainstorm I made an overcast setting with a grey, dull rainbow which brightens up significantly as the kids add its vibrant colors.

Aartpack Illustrations

This is some illustration work I made with Adobe Illustrator while working at Aartpack Interactive. I doubt I would have ever become as proficient with illustrator if I hadn't worked there.

I'll see if I can post up more of my Aartpack work tomorrow.

We needed an example of a fossil, and I've always loved how odd frog skeletons can be. They have an enormous pelvis that takes up much of their torso and causes that big hump on their back, as well as lanky limbs, and a shovel like head.

Scratch and Sketch

It's been quite a while since I've given this blog any attention, so I'd like to remedy that this year.

This was done in photoshop to get back into the groove of using a wacom tablet. I've always wanted to try scratchboard, but it always seems a little too pricey to buy just for the sake of trying it.

I'd like to color this guy soon, but since he's sketched in pen, I'd like to go back in to fix his nose and tidy up those stray lines.

At the moment I don't have a decent way to shoot pencil animation, though I'll certainly work something out soon. For the meantime animating in flash will do, however awkward the result is for the moment. I've got a small test in blue here, and below that a short colored version of it. Both versions are very rough, but I'm starting to get the hang of drawing in Flash.

I just downloaded the open source Pencil, and hope to test it out shortly. It's certainly not the best, but if it has some advantages in animating traditionally over flash, I'll take it.

Werewolf Cycle

I love how a simple 3 frame cycle can bring so much more life into something static, and it was so fun to put so much bunched tension into that shoulder area. You just can't get that kind of taught energy with a single frame illustration.

Critiques are most welcome.
